'Scoodie' comes from the combination of the words scarf and hoodie - and it is taking the world by storm! Magdalena Melzer and Anne Thiemeyer have created 20 scoodie designs that are not only fabulous fashion accessories, but their chunky crocheted yarns will keep both your neck and head wonderfully warm and cosy.
The projects range from the classy and chic to the more casual and creative. With so much variety to choose from, you're sure to find the right style to suit you. There are only two sizes of crochet hook required for every design in the book; and all the projects are graded by difficulty, meaning that, no matter what your crochet ability is, there really is something for everyone. There is even a helpful step-by-step basic crochet guide and techniques for making pom-poms and tassels.
Anne Thiemeyer's love of needlework began when she was a child when her aunt taught her crocheting, knitting and embroidery. Today she has turned her hobby into a career. After completing her studies in textile design, she worked in various editorial departments, while specialising in her favourite craft - crochet. Since 2000, Anne has worked as a freelance designer and consultant for various publishers and yarn suppliers.
As a child, Magdalena Melzer loved to spend hours sewing colourful buttons and developing her love for craft and creativity. When her own children arrived, Magdalena rediscovered crocheting again and the magic of brightly coloured yarns. In 2012, she launched her own label, Curlyz, a small enterprise with a grand passion for designing and crocheting using diverse colour combinations. In every free moment, you can be sure to find her crocheting between mountains of wool, surrounded by many colourful crochet creations.
In New York Roberts worked as a journalist and editor. However, in the mid-1930s, he made contact with Jamaican activists in Harlem and launched the Jamaica Progressive League, pioneering the movement for self-government. Moving back to Jamaica, Roberts decided against a political career, dedicating himself to studying the region and writing books such as The Caribbean: The Story of Our Sea of Destiny and Six Great Jamaicans: Biographical Sketches.
Roberts zestful account of his literary life, his open recollection of his many lovers, and his frank assessment of his political friends and enemies, including Norman Manley and Alexander Bustamante, make These Many Years a vital source for the Jamaican national story.
The volume explores underrepresented areas and cutting-edge topics like MOOCs, ethics in quality assurance, administrative support in quality, tertiary TVET, legislative frameworks and strategic planning. It closes with a projection into the future of quality assurance and enhancement for the region that takes account of international and regional trends in global accreditation standards, accountability of external quality assurance agencies, and MOOCs and cross-border education. A must read for postgraduate students, higher education managers and quality assurance practitioners.
A million-copy bestseller, The Fifth Discipline reveals how systems thinking can transform the culture of any organisation.
We cannot afford to view organisations as mechanical structures where each worker is just a cog in a machine. On an individual level, this thinking snuffs out our curiosity, and on an organisational level, it inhibits us from recognising the true value of our co-workers. How do we instead create organisations that are living, breathing and dynamic?
In The Fifth Discipline, Peter Senge introduces the principles every organisation needs to expand its creative capacity, nurture new patterns of thinking and learn collaboratively all to make the whole organisation more effective than the sum of its parts. Mastering the disciplines will:
- Reignite the spark of learning, driven by people focused on what truly matters to them
- Transform mere teamwork into a culture of collective creativity, or macro-creativity
- Liberate team members from confining assumptions and mindsets
Drawing on science, spiritual values, psychology and case studies from leading companies like Apple, Harley-Davidson and Shell, this bestselling business classic is the definitive guide to growth, personal development and management coaching.
'This is the book I've been waiting for - for years. It's personal, historical, political, and it speaks to where we are now' Benjamin Zephaniah
From the first time he was stopped and searched as a child, to the day he realised his mum was white, to his first encounters with racist teachers - race and class have shaped Akala's life and outlook. In this unique book he takes his own experiences and widens them out to look at the social, historical and political factors that have left us where we are today.
Covering everything from the police, education and identity to politics, sexual objectification and the far right, Natives speaks directly to British denial and squeamishness when it comes to confronting issues of race and class that are at the heart of the legacy of Britain's racialised empire.
Natives is the searing modern polemic and Sunday Times bestseller from the BAFTA and MOBO award-winning musician and political commentator, Akala.
