Although in its infancy, the history of women in Wales and Scotland before and during the Reformation is now thriving. A longer tradition of historical studies has shed light on many areas of women's experience in England. Drawing on this historiography, Christine Peters examines the significance of contrasting social, economic and religious conditions in shaping the lives of women in Britain.
Gender assumptions were broadly similar in England, Wales and Scotland, but female experience varied widely. Women in Early Modern Britain, 1450-1640 explores how this was influenced by various factors, including changes in clanship and inheritance, the employment of single women, the punishment of pregnant brides and scolds, the introduction of Protestantism, and the fusion of fairy beliefs with ideas of demonological witchcraft.
Peters' text is the first comparative survey and analysis of the diversity of women's lives in Britain during the early modern period.

Prayer changes things. It is a stress-reliever. It's a chain-breaker. It's a peace-bringer, and it's necessary for every child of God no matter their age or experience.

Throughout history, women have been especially powerful in taking up the mantle of prayer. It is largely the prayers of women that establish the spiritual sanctuary of their family. Praying women warriors fight against oppression and injustice. Their prayers defend the innocent and the untrained. And through their prayers they are seen as shining examples in the darkness of the world.

This journal gives you the space to write out your prayers and note how they are answered. It will give you a place to continue your progressive march of empowerment by dreaming like your daughters and praying like your grandmothers.

From the NPR host of The Indicator and correspondent for Planet Money comes an accessible, funny, clear-eyed, and practical (Sarah Knight, New York Times bestselling author) guide for how women can apply the principles of 16th-century philosopher Niccolò Machiavelli to their work lives and finally shatter the glass ceilingperfect for fans of Feminist Fight Club, Lean In, and Nice Girls Dont Get the Corner Office.

Women have been making strides towards equality for decades, or so were often told. Theyve been increasingly entering male-dominated areas of the workforce and consistently surpassing their male peers in grades, university attendance, and degrees. Theyve recently stormed the political arena with a vengeance. But despite all of this, the payoff isquite literallynot there: the gender pay gap has held steady at about 20% since 2000. And the number of female CEOs for Fortune 500 companies has actually been declining.

So why, in the age of #MeToo and #TimesUp, is the glass ceiling still holding strong? And how can we shatter it for once and for all? Stacy Vanek Smiths advice: ask Machiavelli with this delicious look at what we have to gain by examining our relationship to power (Sally Helgesen, New York Times bestselling author).

Using The Prince as a guide and with charm and wit, Smith applies Renaissance politics to the 21st century, and demonstrates how women can take and maintain power in careers where they have long been cast as second-best. Machiavelli For Women is the ultimate battle guide for our times. Brimming with hard-boiled strategies, laced with wit, its a must read for every woman ready to wield power unapologetically (Claire Shipman, coauthor of The Confidence Code).

As best-selling author John Gray pointed out, men are from Mars and women are from Venus. There are obvious differences between women and men in anatomy, physiology, hormones, and metabolism. So why do most running books take a one-size-fits-all approach to training? Finally, here's one that doesn't.

Running for Women provides comprehensive information on training female runners based on their cardiovascular, hormonal, metabolic, muscular, and anatomical characteristics. In this authoritative guide, authors Jason Karp and Carolyn Smith answer the questions and tackle the topics women need to know:

The impact of the menstrual cycle on hydration, body temperature, metabolism, and muscle function

The most effective workouts for endurance, speed and strength, lactate threshold, and VO2max

How and when to train during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and menopause

Preventing knee injuries, stress fractures, and other common running-related injuries

Avoiding the risks of the female athlete triaddisordered eating, osteoporosis, and menstrual irregularities

How to use sex differences to your advantage

Based on the latest research on estrogen, metabolism, and other sex-specific performance factors, Running for Women will change the way you fuel, train, and compete. If you are serious about running, this is one guide you must own.
